Overview

Michael J. Schubert is a member in the Chicago office.  Michael specializes in the practice of patent law, primarily in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology fields.  Michael’s practice includes patent prosecution, patent litigation and client counseling matters.

With regard to patent prosecution, Michael has amassed significant experience in representing international and domestic clients before the United States Patent & Trademark office, in addition to the drafting of applications.  Regarding patent litigation, his experience includes fact and expert discovery, legal briefing and motion practice, and claim construction, as well as preparation of inter partes review petitions and participation in subsequent IPR proceedings.  Michael also advises clients on such topics as patentability, freedom to operate, and patent validity.

Michael completed a Master of Science degree at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities concurrently with his law degree.  Prior to law school, he was a researcher in a number of commercial and academic laboratories, focusing primarily on microbiology-related subject matter.  Michael is also a fluent German speaker.
