Mr. Rupp is an intellectual property legal strategist, working with clients to formulate effective and practical strategies to develop, protect and defend their most valuable intellectual property assets. Combining his education in Physics and Electrical Engineering, and industry experience in software programming, he counsels clients in a wide variety of technologies. Mr. Rupp brings to his clients a unique multi-perspective approach based upon from his experience in-house as a client, as a software developer, and with his law firm knowledge and experience as a counselor and advocate for clients.
Mr. Rupp has experience in patent clearance for new products, asserting patents in litigation, defending clients against charges of patent infringement, and challenging the validity of patents through Inter Partes Review proceedings at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Through his more than two decades of experience with clients in the Far East, including living and working in the Far East as in-house intellectual property counsel for one of the world’s largest high tech manufacturing enterprises, Mr. Rupp understands and appreciates the special concerns of clients in the Far East who face complex intellectual property issues in the United States.
Mr. Rupp has substantial experience handling patent issues for a wide variety of high technology, including inflight entertainment systems, wireless and wired networking, medical instruments and equipment, software implemented technologies, digital signal processing, compression and transmission technologies, optical lens design, digital camera and imaging systems, and aircraft navigation systems.
Prior to joining Leydig, Voit & Mayer, Mr. Rupp was a partner in the intellectual property department in one of the 50 largest law firms in the United States.
