Mr. Hasan has represented a broad range of clients based in the U.S. or around the world in various intellectual property matters, with a particular emphasis on patents, trade secrets, and unfair competition matters. His clients include corporations, research institutions, universities, and individual inventors.
In over twenty-five years of practice, he has developed a broad range of experience in litigation, patent prosecution, and opinions. Mr. Hasan has also assisted clients with developing and implementing programs and procedures to protect confidential, proprietary, and trade secret information. Among the technologies in which he has recent experience are: pharmaceuticals, biosimilars, biofuels, medical devices, specialty chemicals, coatings, plastics, packaging, pollution control devices, filtration systems, propellants, cosmetics, chemical surface treatments, and various building materials.
Experience
Mr. Hasan has been involved in numerous high-stakes patent litigations. He has represented generic pharmaceutical manufacturers in paragraph IV Hatch-Waxman litigations for a variety of products and also has experience representing biosimilar manufacturers in formulating strategies arising under the BPCIA. Mr. Hasan has also represented patent holders in major patent, trade secret and unfair competition litigations. In addition, he is experienced in patent interference practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and has counseled clients in a considerable number of opposition proceedings in other jurisdictions, including Europe and Australia.
Mr. Hasan also has extensive experience and an active practice in patent preparation and prosecution in the U.S. and foreign countries. He has successfully drafted and prosecuted hundreds of patents in a variety of technologies including bio/pharma, chemistry, chemical engineering, and mechanical engineering. Mr. Hasan has significant experience managing patent portfolios that span jurisdictions around the globe, and he has developed strategies for drafting and prosecuting patent applications while taking into account particular requirements and opportunities in diverse jurisdictions. He also counsels clients with respect to licensing, opinions, and freedom to operate.
Mr. Hasan joined Leydig, Voit & Mayer in 1998 after practicing in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is also highly active with the firm’s Opportunity & Belonging, Professional Development and Paralegal Committees. He has been an adjunct professor of law in the area of patent prosecution at DePaul College of Law. Mr. Hasan has also volunteered with the Loyola School of Law Vis Moot team as a practice judge arbitrator.
