John practices intellectual property law, focusing on patent prosecution, litigation and counseling in the electrical, software and mechanical areas. He has represented clients in all phases of intellectual property litigation through trial and appeal.
John has particular experience advising clients on the development, management and use of their patent portfolios. He has prepared and prosecuted domestic and international utility and design patent applications in a variety of technical areas. Recent technologies and industries with which he has been involved include telecommunications, big data systems, financial services, healthcare, biometric recognition, artificial intelligence, control systems, and power generation.
John advises clients in these diverse fields on invalidity, non-infringement, freedom-to-operate, due diligence, licensing and prosecution issues. He further advises clients on post-grant patent office proceedings. John works closely with his clients to understand the nuances of their business and develop strategies aligned with their goals.
Prior to attending law school, John worked as an applications engineer within the semi-conductor industry. His work included creating customer reference designs using FPGAs and embedded processors. Additionally, John developed and taught technical courses for audiences of up to one hundred engineers. He also worked at a software company, programming user interface modules and configuring backend database systems.
